About Great Lakes Fisheries
Great Lakes Fisheries (GLF) is a new purpose built fisherman’s cold storage and service provider facility established by Phillip and Graeme Byrnes in 2016. This occurred following an extended period of lobbying from dedicated local professional fishers. In essence, these local fishers’ goal was to be able to market their seafood where ensuring consistency of quality to consumers came first. GLF carries this commitment to quality forward as a Contracted Supplier to Sydney Fish Market and through our advocacy as a member of Seafood Industry Australia.
The collective ideology of all GLF suppliers is and remains “quality over quantity” consistent with our core belief that…..WE BELIEVE IN TAKING LESS OUT OF THE WATER IN FAVOUR OF DELIVERING SEAFOOD OF EXTRAORDINARY QUALITY.
With a dedicated team of local fishermen suppliers, GLF has consistently achieved the above with significant industry recognition for its commitment to quality supply.
Seafood Excellence Awards
In 2019 GLF was awarded a “Highly Commended” at the Seafood Excellence Awards – Recognising and Rewarding Excellence in the Australian Seafood Industry – in the category of “Best Supplier (NSW)”.
In 2022 GLF was again awarded “Highly Commended” in the category of “Seafood Business Award”
These awards came on top of GLF winning the Sydney Fish Market 2018 World Fisheries Day Environmental Grant for “Excellence in Environmental Practices”.
Driving this success are key factors including:

- GLF encouraging individual fisher suppliers’ entrepreneurship in the marketing of their product.

- GLF policies of free ice to all suppliers and 24/7/365 access to GLF cold storage premises.
In the years ahead, GLF’s commitment to bringing the finest quality seafood to consumers will continue to grow through innovation, information technology and old fashioned determination.
